Case Study 2 – London (5 Residential Sites)

Geo Environmental Engineering in association with Geo Environmental Drilling has completed a geo-environmental assessment for several sites across various boroughs of London where funding has been provided to redevelop the existing high rise for new accommodation blocks.

Access was restricted across the sites with the areas of investigation being highly populated by residents and members of the public, with the alleyways and footpaths being used to access the local shopping precinct. Consequently, the investigation method chosen was a lightweight, highly mobile dynamic sampling rig. This specialist piece of equipment allowed for boreholes to be drilled to c.5.00m below current ground levels whilst being located in areas where it would not be possible to position a cable percussion drilling rig.

The assessment was to aid future foundation design whilst assessing if any potential ground contamination was present associated with the historical land use prior to the construction of the existing residential blocks.
