Case Study 3 – South London

Geo Environmental Engineering in association with Geo Environmental Drilling has completed a brief foundation assessment for a residential property in South London that has been affected by subsidence.

Many mature trees surround the site and the existing structure has been extended at some point. Significant cracking and subsidence has occurred at the point where the two structures have been joined and an investigation comprising two dynamic sampling boreholes and three manually excavated trial pits was undertaken.

The boreholes were positioned to recover samples of the natural clay soils adjacent to the building and adjacent to the trees. The manually excavated trial pits were positioned to accurately record and photograph the foundations associated with the house and the extension. During the foundation excavations many rootlets were noted with samples recovered for DNA analysis.
